Leprechaun Shakers

Looking for an easy and fun St. Patrick’s Day craft?! These gold coin leprechaun shakers are the perfect activity for you and your kids. And they can also serve as a tool to catch that leprechaun because we all know they love gold, sparkles and rainbows!

Gather up the supplies below (and smocks if you want to keep your kids clean) and get making!

Supplies

  • Plain white paper plates
  • Paint (I used acrylic and watercolor
  • Glue
  • Hot glue/glue gun
  • Gold glitter
  • Pencil
  • Scissors
  • Plastic (from 2 liter bottle
  • Plastic gold coins
  • Stapler or hole punch and yarn

Instructions

Paint the bottom side of one plate green and allow to dry.

Paint a rainbow on the bottom side of another plate and allow to dry.

Paint the opposite side of the rainbow plate the color of your choice or leave it white.

Use a stencil (you should be able to find one online, I used a shamrock shape I already had at home) to trace a shamrock shape on the top side of the plate you painted green.

Using your scissors, cut out the shamrock shape.

Paint the green side of the shamrock paint with glue or glue dots and sprinkle with gold glitter. Shake off the excess and allow to dry.

Remove any labels from the plastic bottle and cut it into squares large enough to cover the shamrock hole.

Use glue to attach the plastic to the inside of the plate and cover the shamrock cutout. Set something heavy on top of the plastic to help it flatten and dry.

Place the plates on top of each other and add 6-8 gold coins to the inside/center.

Secure the plates together using a stapler or punch holes in the edges and let your kiddos practice lacing.

When finished, shake your shakers and do a little dance (perhaps, an Irish jig?!)!
