Hot Air Balloon Valentine Box

Are you looking for an adorable, but still easy and affordable Valentine box for your kids’ class Valentine party? Then you MUST try DIYing this Hot Air balloon Valentine box. You can grab everything you need at your local craft store and assembly only took about an hour. Lennon took this box to school this year for her first grade party and now I actually have it hanging from bedroom ceiling because it is so cute.

Per usual, I don’t beat around the bush getting to the instructions:

Supplies

  • Paper party lantern (large)
  • Skinny wooden rods/sticks (I used 4)
  • Basket
  • Ribbon
  • Pompoms
  • Beads (shapes, colors and letters)
  • String
  • Battery powered tea light
  • Yarn
  • Cardstock in multiple colors
  • Cricut (for cutting out shapes)
  • Glue gun
  • Hot glue sticks
  • Tape

Assembly Instructions

Glue the pompoms around the rim of the basket using hot glue.

Secure the tea light to the bottom wire lantern form. Lots of hot glue and tape were needed for this. Be sure to leave the on/off switch exposed.

Assemble the paper lantern and then fix the lantern to the basket using the wooden rods. I wove the rods through the first few strips at the top of the basket and then secured to the lantern by creating small holes and gluing the rod to the lantern with hot glue and tape.

Cut out a variety of shapes using the card stock and your Cricut. We made hearts, peace signs and butterflies.

Glue these to the lantern with hot glue.

Make a couple yarn pompoms and also a strand of beads with your child’s name on it and hang these from the bottom of the “balloon” near the tea light using the same metal wire.

Tie ribbon of various lengths and colors to the bottom of the basket.

And now you are done! Your child can hold the Valentine box from wither the top wire handle of the lantern or from the bottom basket. During the party, classmates will know it is your child’s because of their name on the bead strand and they can drop their cards/goodies directly into the basket.

If you make one of these yourself, please tag me on Instagram (@the_patientmom) because I would love to see how it turns out!
