LEGO. My husband hates them. I hate stepping on them and cleaning them up. But, my son loves them. I was sick of seeing them scattered in all corners of our basement and mixed in with doll clothes and Barbie accessories so I decided it was time to take charge.
Hank has had a small play table in his bedroom since he was a toddler and it was pretty beat up. I had a genius idea to repurpose this into a LEGO table and then use a set of plastic drawers that were collecting dust in my attic to store the LEGO pieces and sets. All I had to purchase were the LEGO base pieces!
Here is a quick run down of how I created the table.
Supplies
- LEGO base pieces
- Gorilla glue
- Play table
- Disinfectant wipes
Instructions

Wipe down the table with disinfectant wipes. If there is anything stuck to the table, I suggest removing it with something like Goo Gone.

Layout the bases on the table to find the exact placement you would like. I chose to use two different colors (blue and grey) to match Hank’s room.

Once you have the placement figured out, cover the bottom of each base plate with Gorilla Glue. Place the glue side down onto the table and firmly push down and hold the place in place for a few minutes.

Repeat this process with each base piece. You can use LEGO pieces to hold the bases in place next to eachother.

I let this dry overnight and placed some heavy books on top of the bases to help hold them down.
While the table was drying I organized the LEGO pieces and sets by putting them in a set of plastic drawers right near the table. You could also use plastic bins/tubs with lids. Hank’s LEGO collection isn’t huge at the moment so the drawers worked great. But I’m guessing I’ll have to figure something else out in a year or so.

Once the table was dry and the bases were nice and stuck, Hank was free to play!
