One of my favorite things about fall and spooky seasons is mums. I love how full these flowers are and how they pretty up my front porch so easily. I usually purchase around 4-6 mums around mid-September. The first week or so I am super responsible and water them a few times. But by the beginning of August, like all of the other plants in my life, I have forgotten those poor beauties and they begin to wilt and dry out.
But don’t worry!! Just because your mums die doesn’t mean you have to mourn them and the money you wasted. In fact, you SHOULD let them dry out by mid-October and then try this spooky mum hack!
About two weeks before Halloween, I spice up my Halloween porch decor by turning my old mums into spooky florals. All you need is some black spray paint and fake spider webs to turn those bad boys from drab to fab. Here’s how:
Supplies
- Mums – preferably on the verge of death/dehydration
- Black spray paint
- Fake spider webs
- Plastic spiders
- Skeleton hands
Instructions

Grab your poor, dying mums and spray paint the crap out of them. Give them a good couple of coats. Depending on how many mums you are painting, you may want a couple cans of spray paint.

Once dry, you can place them into a pot if you want. One of these days I am going to make cute pumpkin pots or something. But not today!

Spread some of the fake spider webs over your mums. As much or as little as you want.

Next, add some fake spiders to the webs and top it off with some fun skeleton hands.

Finally, put them on display!!
