Hank’s 6th birthday party was a Star Wars theme and I had so much fun decorating for it. I will preface that I know very little about Star Wars; I think I have seen most of the movies at least once, but never really got into them. So when Hank said he wanted a Star Wars party I was a bit intimidated. Thankfully, Pinterest, Etsy, Google and my husband were at my side with some ideas.
From decor and dessert, to food and goodie bags (and a surprise appearance from someone on the Dark Side) here are all the details you need to have your own Star Wars party!
The Invitation
I bought this edible Star Wars birthday invitation from a shop on Etsy that apparently seems to no longer exist, but there are a lot of similar options! I was able to customize it in Canva with all the specific details for Hank’s party.

The Location
Our backyard baby! We blew up a mini bounce house and a double waterslide and let the kids run wild. I love to have parties at my house because it forces me to clean and organize, and then I don’t have to cart a bunch of gifts home after. Although now that my kids are getting older, we will probably start planning parties at places with activities.
The Shirt
I love to get my kids theme-related shirts or outfits for their parties. I purchased this grey HANK + Star Wars shirt from SkylightCA shop on Etsy.
The Photo Op
I set up this festive photo op/backdrop scene for pictures. Here is a post with all of the instructions to make one yourself:
The Food
Unfortunately I flaked on taking pics of the actual food, but I did my best to keep with the theme. I purchased these Star Wars Party Food Labels to place in front of each dish. Here is a list of the food + Star Wars “reference”.
- Thermal Detonators (Chic-fil-a Nuggets)
- Pizza the Hut (Pizza – this was more of a Space Balls reference haha)
- Light Sabers (Chocolate covered pretzel rods)
- Obi-Wan Kabobies (Fruit skewers)
- 7 Leia Dip (7 layer taco dip)
- Vader Veggies (Veggie tray and dip)
- Droid Dip (French onion dip and chips)
- Ewokamole (Guacamole)
- BB8 Cakes (Cake/Cupcakes)
- Force Fuel (Juice Boxes)
The Decor
This party was a good mix of DIY decor and store bought. My mom made the cupcake and cake topper characters using her Cricut. I made the fringe backdrops. I purchased the Star Wars plates, tablecloths and pinata from Party City. Character faces from the goodie bags and windows were also Cricut creations. Balloon arches were from Amazon also. I DIYed the photo op backdrop and have full instructions and supplies here:
The Celebrity Appearance
DARTH VADER made a celebrity appearance and the kids loved it. My brother dressed up in the costume we bought off of Amazon and it was a great photo opportunity. We were also impressed with Darth’s stylish footwear (Hey Dudes, hahaha).
The Cake/Cupcakes
I made the cake and cupcakes myself and added theme related sprinkles and a cake topper. Here is a while post about how I created the cake:
The Goodie Bags
For the goodie bags, a glued Star Wars character faces to white paper gift bags. In each bag I included items from this Party City Star Wars Party Pack. I also added Star Wars stickers and Crocs jibbitz I got off of Temu.
It was really such a fun birthday theme, and I know Hank and his friends had a blast. Now, time to plan the twins’ Taylor Swift birthday party in a few weeks!!
