Star Wars Party Backdrop

A long time ago (well, a few weeks ago) in a galaxy far, far away….I created the cutest party/photo op backdrop for my son’s Star Wars birthday party. It is one of my favorite backdrop scenes to date and I am here to walk you through how I created this DIY party decor.

It makes the perfect backdrop for birthday kid photos, party-goers and/or behind a food or gift table. Setup a phone stand so guests can take unassisted photos and you have your own DIY photo booth for a fraction of the price it would cost to hire one out.

I promise your little Jedis will LOVE this setup at your next event.

Instructions

First, find the perfect space for the your back drop. A wall inside, a fence outside, whatever is clever. I will say, if it is hot outside or windy, you will lose balloons! I cleared out some furniture and decor from our living room.

Measure out and place 9 command hooks on the wall/space (3 on each side and 3 down the middle) and secure the 3 rows of backdrop party fringe to the wall, layering the top over the bottom layer as you go.

Put together your balloon arch according to the package instructions. We use an air compressor and Nick blows up/ties and I assemble the balloons on the ribbon.

Hang the balloon arch to the top row of hooks using string, allowing it to drape down evenly on both sides or all the way down one side.

Put together your metal arch and add the cover to it. Then place the letters (mine says “Happy Birthday Hank 6”) on the cover. They may come off every now and then but I still suggest using the removable vinyl whenever possible so that you can take them off and remove the cover. However, do note that you can always flip the arch around and use the other side for a different event!

Place the completed arch to the side of the backdrop/balloon arch.

Finally, blow up your mylar balloons and secure them to the scene using tape or glue/sticky dots.

Now you are ready for a party! Be sure to grab a few pics of your birthday kid(s) before the guests arrive because things tend to get hectic after that and I promise you will end up with some balloon casualties.
